Beverly Hills, CA (May 29, 2019) – The Beverly Hills City Council has unanimously selected Huma Ahmed as the next City Clerk of Beverly Hills.  Huma, who currently serves as the City’s Community Outreach Manager, will succeed former City Clerk Byron Pope who retired in 2018.

“When it comes to established community relationships and a deep understanding of Beverly Hills, Huma sets the standard,” said Mayor John Mirisch. “The Council is proud to appoint her to this new role and we look forward to her continued success and commitment to our City.”

Beverly Hills’ last two City Clerks have also joined the office from various roles within other City departments including Public Works and the City Manager’s Office.

As City Clerk, Huma will lead a team responsible for maintaining the City's legislative history; ensuring compliance with the political reform act; preparing the legislative agendas and minutes; attending City Council Meetings; and administering the City's records management program.

“I am very grateful to the Council for this tremendous opportunity and for the trust they have placed in me,” said Huma.  “The passion I have for this community is unwavering and I look forward to working with the talented staff in the Clerk’s office to continue to deliver exceptional customer service.”

Huma began her career with the City of Beverly Hills in 2007 as Community Outreach Coordinator and progressed to Community Outreach Manager.  Over the last 12 years, she has directed communications campaigns, served as the City’s Ombudsman, and coordinated various Mayoral and Council initiatives including the City’s Summer and Holiday BOLD (Businesses Open Later Days) programs. She has extensive experience working with both the residential and business community of Beverly Hills.

Huma earned her Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California and Masters of Public Administration and Executive Masters of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. The City Council is expected to appoint Huma at an upcoming meeting with an anticipated start date of July 1.
